Nearly 400,000 vehicles Volkswagen returns from the Chinese market
Volkswagen has returned nearly 400,000 vehicles in the Chinese market back in the factories, due to ongoing problems with the gearbox. To date this is the largest product withdrawal taken by the automaker to its main market.
Of 2 April VW plans to start replacing faulty parts and updating software gearboxes in 384,000 vehicles in China, said a company spokesman.
Withdrawal is dictated by the signals of the local authority for quality control AQSIQ, which in turn put the company criticized by state media channels.
VW announced this move a little later, stressing that the decision was made "by itself".
Affected cars were produced in China and part of the imported models including Bora, Golf, Passat Touran and Scirocco. The company is aware of the problem for some time, having previously extend the warranty on your speed boxes.
Currently Volkswagen is the second largest foreign carmaker in China. Of 9.1 million cars sold worldwide in 2012, the best year of the company to date, 2.8 million were sold in China.
Earlier this month, the company's CEO Martin Winterkorn announced plans of management for a significant expansion of the company's operations in its largest market.
